- Nearly all (96%) respondents across the seven European countries included in this research say that they eat chicken, with two thirds (66%) saying they eat chicken once a week or more.
- Three in ten (62%) respondents say they prefer to buy ethically sourced chicken (including free-range, organic, animal welfare certified or locally sourced chicken).
- Nine in ten respondents say it is important that broiler chickens are healthy and free from illness or disease (90%) and that they are raised in a clean environment, with unpolluted air and clean litter (89%).
- The majority of respondents also say it is important that broiler chickens are slaughtered using a humane (i.e. quick and painless) method (86%) and have access to a covered or uncovered outdoor area (85%).
- Nine in ten respondents agree that broiler chickens should be better protected than they are now (89%); that chicken sold in the EU should be labelled by country of origin (89%) and with information about the welfare standards they were raised under (87%).
