More than half of Britons would like to see the government slow down (30%) or continue the current programme (24%) of public spending cuts as a way of addressing the budget deficit.
- Just 7% of Britons believe the government should speed up the pace of spending cuts while twice that number (14%) want spending cuts to be stopped and public spending to be kept at broadly the same level as in 2014/15.
- One in ten (10%) think the government should increase public spending regardless of the deficit.
