Publishers Association – Book-buying habits
Survey of UK adults on book-buying habits before and during the COVID-19 lockdown, with a focus on audiobooks.
  • Younger adults are the most likely to buy audiobooks, both in a typical month before lockdown and in the past month during the lockdown – with one in five 18-34-year olds having done so during each period (both 20%).
  • Of those who have bought audiobooks before or during the lockdown, six in ten (58%) say they have bought more of this format than normal in the past month.
  • Those who have been buying more audiobooks during lockdown most often cite relaxation (29%) and entertainment (25%) as their main reasons for doing so.
  • One in five (20%) of those who don’t tend to buy audiobooks would be encouraged to do so if they were cheaper.
