South East Councils – SE1000 Spring 2022
Survey of residents, businesses and councillors in South East England

• Four in ten (39%) of South East residents do not know what the term ‘levelling up’ means.
• Reducing poverty is seen as the most important factor for an area to level up by residents, businesses and councillors. Lowering unemployment was the second most commonly selected option for businesses and residents, while better transport connections was Councillors’ second most commonly selected option.
• More than half (57%) of residents and approaching half of businesses (45%) don't know very much or anything about the measures being taken in their local area on climate adaptation.

Savanta ComRes interviewed 574 South East England adults aged 18+, 257 South East England Businesses, and 178 South East England Councillors online between 28th April and 6th June 2022. Public data were weighted to be representative of South East England adults by age, gender, and county, Business data were weighted to be representative of South East England by industry type and business size, and Councillor data were weighted by council type, council control, and party.
